OorutaichiEN / Oorutaichi (aka Taichi Moriguchi) wants to make music nobody has heard before: imaginary electronic folklore. He makes drifter music, strung through with expert percussion and electric rays, flowing on a river of magical chants, inspired loops and choruses written in an invented language, undiscovered country left and right. Exalted and resolutely pop titles such as ‘Beshaby’ or ‘Jimaji’ sound as if they might have been composed on the edge of a volcano. Onstage, Oorutaichi is not chained to his machines but sings with them in a deluge of extravagance and colour. Animal Hospital is Kevin Micka's one-man musical recording/performance entity. During performances, Micka buries himself in a pile of electronics-shelves of effects, mixing consoles, amps and delay units-while patiently constructing a layered nest of loops consisting of live drum beats, guitar chords, scrapes, chimes, and melodies resulting in anything from more conventional songs to meticulously crafted ambient movements on to full on improvisation. He sounds like the combination of all of your favourite post rock bands combined into a one-man-band. Tortoise, The Berg Sans Nipple, Battles, ... Boomkat had this to say about his "Memory" album: "It's the realisation of one man's messed up vision, held together by things that shouldn't work but somehow really do. Just awesome." FR / Avec son folklore électronique en provenance d’un pays imaginaire, Oorutaichi (alias Taichi Moriguchi) veut produire une musique que personne n’a jamais entendue. Ses textes écrits dans une langue inventée et ses boucles électroniques inspirées nous entraînent vers des terres inexplorées. Il compose une musique à la dérive ou s’entremêlement rayons électriques, percussions expertes et mélopées magiques. Résolument pop et exaltés, des titres comme Beshaby ou Jimaji pourraient avoir été composés sur le bord d’un volcan. Sur scène, Oorutaichi n’est pas rivé à ses machines, mais chante avec elles dans un déluge psyché-pop. Influencé par l’esthétique bizarre de groupes japonais du milieu des années 1990 comme Unicorn et Kinniku Shoujo Tai, puis par sa découverte du reggae dancehall, Oorutaichi absorbe les bribes de musique qu’il découvre sur son chemin pour les intégrer dans ses compositions électroniques ethno-futuristes, des Residents aux Doors en passant par Aphex Twin. Inclassable, son dernier album Yori Yoyo semble voguer dans le même univers électronique chantant et coloré que Panda Bear, El Guincho ou Lucky Dragons. Animal Hospital est le nom derriére se cache Kevin Micka. Véritable homme-orchestre post-rock, il empile effets, amplis et machines, dont il tire aussi bien des pop-songs conventionnelles que de vrais moments d’improvisation ouvragée. Tirant chaque instrument à ses limites, il délivre des morceaux alliant la douleur la plus sourde à la beauté pure du son le plus brut. Sa tournée européenne a déjà donné aux auditeurs des moments de stupeur et d’admiration devant cette maitrise parfaite de la faille sonore.

NL / Oorutaichi (aka Taichi Moriguchi) wilt muziek maken zoals die nog nooit gehoord werd: irreële elektronische folklore. Hij maakt muziek met een razende percussie, elektronische synth-stralen, hypnotiserende zanglijnen en verrassende loops. Op het podium speelt Oorutaichi geen verstoppertje achter zijn machines, maar gaat er op een extravagante en kleurrijke manier mee zingen en dansen. Oorspronkelijk beïnvloed door de esthetiek van alles wat bizar is, begon hij te experimenteren met zijn viersporenopnemer in 1999. Maar het was pas met de ontdekking van dancehall dat hij zijn eigen, volstrekte unieke weg vond door een etno-futuristisch landschap, waarbij hij elke invloed – van The Doors over The Residents tot Aphex Twin – op een of andere onvoorspelbare manier in zijn muziek weet te werken. Oorutaichi lijkt het kleine, nog onbekende broertje te zijn van andere kleurrijke figuren uit de hedendaagse elektronisch scene: Dan Deacon, Panda Bear, El Guincho, Lucky Dragons, .. In Japan brachten zijn fascinerende live shows daar al een bescheiden verandering in en nu is het ook de beurt aan Europa en les ateliers claus. Kevin Micka is de man achter Animal Hospital, Animal Hospitaleen éénmansband die ons eerder dit jaar wist te verbazen met het geweldige "Memory" op Barge Records. Voor optredens begraaft hij zich haast letterlijk in een stapel effecten, mixing desks, pedaaltjes, gitaren, drums en microfoons waarna hij daar plots de ene na de andere geweldige compositie uit te haalt. Zijn invloeden zijn duidelijk hoorbaar, maar hij weet ze op zo'n eigenzinnige manier te combineren dat je je geen seconde verveelt. Tortoise, The Berg Sans Nipple, Battles, Labradford, ... je voelt hun aanwezigheid wel, maar een kopie is het nooit. “Memory” kreeg eerder dit jaar al meer dan lovende kritieken – “It's the realisation of one man's messed up vision, held together by things that shouldn't work but somehow really do.
