NL / Jammer genoeg heeft Good For Cows moeten afzeggen aangezien bassist Devin Hoff zijn pols gebroken heeft. Gelukkig wou Ches Smith, de andere helft van Good For Cows, ons wel verblijden met een ander project: CONGS FOR BRUMS. Composities voor drum en elektronica gebaseerd op juxtapositie van noise en melodieën, verschillende percussietechnieken en ingewikkelde polyritmes. Na zijn uitstekend debuut, staat dit jaar een nieuwe release van hem gepland getitled “Noise For Men”. Ches Smith studeerde muziek met William Winant, Pauline Oliveros en Fred Firth. Momenteel neemt hij op en speelt hij samen met Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog, Xiu Xiu, Secret Chiefs 2, ... Nog een korte persoonlijke noot: na Ches Smith aan het werk gezien te hebben bij Lyenn & Carla Bozulich een paar maand terug, konden we niet anders dan hem opnieuw uit te nodigen. Diegenen die aanwezig waren weten waarom!   ••• Als voorprogramma etaleert de zeskoppige band YOLK hun totaal eigenzinnige progrock. Denk aan Magma of Gong.

FR / Devant la défection d u bassiste Devin Hoff, Ches Smith propose au pied levé son projet solo Congs for Brums : batterie, percussions et sons électronique se mêlent au service de mélodies et d’une polyrythmie étonnantes. Sur le premier LP éponyme, la part belle était faite au vibraphone, sur le second, à paraitre fin 2010, ce sont les sons électroniques et un travail presque bruitiste qui sont mis en avant. En arrière plan de tout cela, on entend le travail passé de Ches Smith auprès d’artistes comme Fred Frith ou Pauline Oliveiros, et des échos de ses collaborations avec Xiu xiu ou Marc Ribot, passé à la moulinette de ses expérimentations jusqu’au boutistes   •••   En première partie, une version plus mélodique du psychédélisme avec les français de YOLK et leurs morceaux en forme de bande son pour western del’espace. Entre les instrumentaux de messerchups ou Morricone et l’emphase d’un jazz rock dont Gong et Magma détenaient le secret.

EN / Unfortunately Good For Cows had to cancel their show since bassplayer Devin Hoff broke his wrist. Fortunately Ches Smith, the other half of Good For Cows, decided to play a solo show with his project CONGS FOR BRUMS. Featuring compositions for drums and electronics using noise, melody, extended percussion techniques and polyrhythm, Congs For Brums is more than just a side-project. After his excellent self-titled debut he is set to release another new record later this year. Ches Smith has studied music with William Winant, Pauline Oliveros and Fred Firth and currently performs and records with Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog, Xiu Xiu, Secret Chiefs 2, ... On a more personal note for les ateliers claus: after seeing Ches Smith play with Lyenn and Carla Bozulich a few months ago, we couldn't resist inviting him again. Those who were there know what we're talking about!   •••   Support act will be the promising french band YOLK. Uncompromising pyschedelic progrock in the same vein as Magma or Gong.
