NL / Hardcore jazz bands die vaker dan niet door het dolle heen gaan, we houden er wel van. Pierre Vervloesem, bekend van X-Legged Sally, A Group en als co-producer van de beste dEUS-plaat, weet hoe hij ons hart sneller kan doen slaan. Samen met Gil Mortio & Al Battor brengt hij als KINGS OF BELGIUM hyperkinetische composities opgetrokken uit gitaar, bas & drum. Tot nog toe brachten ze 1 plaat uit, "Unchained Melodies", op een offshoot van het Brusselse Stilll. Freaky jazz hardcore, spastische funk metal, de schizofrene en wispelturige nummers van Kings Of Belgium zullen ongetwijfeld elke fan van eigenzinnige jazzpunk doen watertanden ••• De band Blast werd opgericht in 1989 en onderging in de afgelopen 20 jaar zowel artistiek als qua bezitting een grote verandering. Hun muziek wandelde van complexe art-rock composities naar een veel vrijere en open stijl dat eerder naar “Nieuwe Muziek” en improvisatie neigt. In mei van dit jaar werd de zevende Blast cd een feit met “Sift”, uitgebracht door Recommended Records van de befaamde Chris Cutler. BLAST 4TET specialiseert zich in muziek waar compositie en improvisatie niet langer tegengestelden zijn. Via experimentele notatietechnieken zoals grafische notatie, polymetrics en door met vrij in te vullen parameters te werken, slaagt Blast 4Tet er wonderwel in om een perfecte balans te vinden tussen vrije muziek en originele, gefocuste composities. Blast 4Tet is Dirk Bruinsma, Fabrizio Spera, Frank Crijns en Paed Conca.
FR / KINGS OF BELGIUM est une de ces formations que les ateliers chérissent: Jazz improvisé, hardcore punk, déflagrations sonores sont au menu de ce trio emmené par Pierre Vervloesem, membre de X-legged Sally et dEUS. De ceux-ci, on retrouve ces morceaux en évolution constante, que le batteur Al Battor et le guitariste et bassiste Gil Mortio savent emmener vers des territoires inconnus ••• Né en 1989, le groupe BLAST 4TET s’est fixé sous la forme d’un quatuor il y a neuf ans et six albums. D’un art-rock sophistiqué, ils évoluérent vers un jazz improvisé proche de la musique contemporaine. Dans une volonté de méler compositions et improvisations en un tout cohérent, ils utilisent des techniques telles composition aléatoire, écriture graphique, ainsi que des elements d’electro-accoustique qui permettent un renouvellement constant, du genre jazz comme des influences évoquées.

Together with Gil Mortio and Al Battor he builds hyperkinetic jazzpunk with guitar, bass and drum. KINGS OF BELGIUM have made one record until now, “Unchained Melodies” on an offshoot of the brusselsbased Stilll label. For lovers of eccentric and noisy jazz ••• The group Blast was originally founded in 1989. As would be expected, the line up and musical focus has changed quite a bit during the past 20 years. The groups musical development has traveled from complex composed art-rock to a much more open style that combines elements of new music and improvisation. In may 2009 the seventh Blast CD titled "Sift" was released by Recommended Records, the label of Chris Cutler. BLAST 4TET specializes in music in which composition and improvisation are integrated as much as possible. Thanks to experimenting with notation techniques such as graphical writing, polymetrics, free choice of parameters, they manage to find a perfect balance between free music and unusual yet focussed compositions.
