Queer Constellations in / outside / and the Law
Dear kids, parents, godparents, lovers, and fighters, You are invited to the May edition of Kin Tales
— and the last one taking place at Les Ateliers Claus.
31 May / 14h00–17h00 / Rue Crickx 15 1060 St. Gilles
This time we will host Frederik Swennen — professor of the law of persons and family law at the University of Antwerp, and attorney-at-law at the Antwerp Bar.
Drawing from his research on kinship and legal recognition, Frederik's talk will move through questions around queer constellations, chosen family, guardianship, and the possibility of working both within and against legal frameworks.
What happens when forms of care and commitment fall outside existing legal categories? What is gained through legal recognition — and what might be lost?
The talk will also open onto broader questions: how might we invent new vocabularies and structures of kinship? And what changes when we begin to think of objects, spaces, and material things not simply as symbols, but as active participants in relations of care and belonging?
There will also be a kids' corner, pancakes, and—as always— space for reflection, conversation, and lingering exchanges.
Doors open at 14:00.
The programme will begin at 14:20 sharp.
Being on time is the new cool :)
We would be glad to have you with us <3
Free prize contribution, please bring cash. Drink available at the bar: cash and card.
For this event, the language will be English. It is possible to talk/share in French and Dutch (and potentially many other languages), and we will support with translate.
Unfortunately, the toilets are not accessible to those with reduced mobility.
