“The Lost Record”

is a movie about a girl’s relationship to a record she finds, a valueless “lost record” from the cut out bin, which she brings to wider attention; first to her friends and then to mass culture.

“The Lost Record” she finds is obscure, unknown, and different than other records in that it talks to the

listener. The girl and the record develop a very close relationship but tension arises; the Record urges her to turn her friends on to it, play it at parties, etc, while the girl would rather keep their thing intimate, to herself. The film is a set in an unnamed but vaguely sci-fi near-future. It stars a young woman (played by Pauline Jorri) who works a dead end job at an art factory, making high–end conceptual pieces on an assembly line for an insatiable market of money laundering speculators.

Her family life is strained with parents who watch “feel-o-vision” all day, and her love life is moribund; she is required by a ‘Central Erotic Authority’ to attend a sex club every week where ‘tinder’ type near-anony-mous encounters are the norm.

One day she finds an unmarked record at a junk shop, takes it home and plays it.

The record talks to her, and she develops a philosophical and romantic relationship with it.

Though the girl is content to keep their love secret and special, the record is ambitious and frustrated. It urges her to play it for friends and try to get it on the radio. This seems impossible, as there is only one record that plays on the radio; the “#1 Record.” It plays non-stop, day and night.

While her friends are receptive to the record, there are forces that want to destroy it, including a motorcy-cle gang called “The Commuters” who think music isn’t an art form but a harmful virus a la Avian flu.

The girl’s relationship to the record is dreamlike and surreal, and it is an open question which scenes, characters, and conversations are imagined and which are real.

In the end, the lost record is somehow proliferated and pushes the “#1 Record” off the air, but the girl

feels bereft; she has lost her companion.

“The Lost Record” is a film about art, music, fetish, creation, underground vs overground, love, value,

money, ownership and records. It explores people’s relationships to inanimate objects and the power they invest said objects with, whether it be political, cultural, sentimental, sexual, or monetary. The Lost Record examines the idea that a piece of art could act as a catalyst to transform the world in a revolutionary sense, and the effect popularity has on the meaning or value that people place on art. It examines the capacity for artwork to be an avatar for its maker or owner and also for an artwork to become a Frankenstein or golem, which its creator can lose control of.

The Lost Record will fill a vast void in underground cinema with one which is stylish, conceptual and in-telligent. The world of film is dominated now by either idiotic, propagandistic documentaries or low brow tributes to “B” exploitation movies. There is a vacuum and we intend to fill it, with vision and leadership.

live interviews, sermons, world news and opinion, guest appearances, electric guitars, drum machine, electro-magnetic tapes, fuzz box, sickening sounds, and stolen samples. critics have been unanimous in saying “I didn’t see anything; I mind my own business. Listen, I don’t want any trouble.”

escape-ism originally was designed as a live performance to accompany the book tour promoting svenonius’ “supernatural strategies for making a rock ’n’ roll group”(2013 akashic) but has since mutated, devolved, and is now sought out to play rock ’n’ roll gigs, art openings, shindigs, conventions, and the like.
